Gabit#27 first ever Malaysian racer in the World S1GP supermoto championships
The final S1GP of the year at Lombardia in Italy was the race chosen by Malaysian supermoto racer and champion, Muhamed Habibullah, (who is known as Gabit to his friends and race fans) for his S1GP debut.
The idea was to compete at one Grand Prix this year to learn the speed of the European racers, before deciding on a potential full S1GP championship campaign in 2022. Gabit knew that the level of competition in Europe is very high and to learn and race against the Europeans and Italians on their home tracks was going to be a tough learning experience.
Gabit was joining the Supermotoland Husqvarna race team for the weekend and was riding one of their semi factory A kit Husqvarna FS450’s. The weekend started well, with Gabit learning the awesome Casteletto di Branduzzo race track with its asphalt jumps in the Sky zone and its fast sweeping turns. Session by session Gabit found more and more speed and technique to improve his pace.
On race day Gabit found even more pace, and impressed his race team and sponsors with his enthusiasm and speed. Gabit finished race 1 in 14th position, then the fast race in 15th position and in the final race of the day, called the super final, he had a first corner crash when a rider fell in front of him. The crash caused a front tyre puncture on Gabits bike so he had to retire.
Overall Gabit finished his first GP in 15th position scoring 14 world championship points that gave him 23rd position in the final S1GP world championship standings in 2021. Not a bad weekends work.
All of this was achieved with Gabit experiencing vision problems with his right eye that meant his vision blurred during the tough long races. Despite this he was still able to ride at a very high level and showed his potential for a full time S1GP ride in 2022.
Maybe we will see a Malaysian racer in S1GP next year?????
